ORANGE, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 2002--Hubbell Incorporated (NYSE: HUBA, HUBB) today announced the appointment of Scott H. Muse as Group Vice President - Hubbell Lighting, Inc.
He was also elected an officer of the corporation by the Company's Board of Directors. He succeeds Wesson M. Brown who is retiring after more than 26 years of service to Hubbell.
Mr. Muse, 45, will have overall responsibility for all operations of Hubbell Lighting, Inc., which is a core business platform for the Company and one of the leading lighting fixture manufacturers in North America. The platform supplies a comprehensive range of indoor and outdoor lighting products to industrial, commercial, and institutional applications and is the largest manufacturer of residential and light commercial decorative fixtures in the United States. Mr. Muse joined Hubbell in April of 2002 with the Company's acquisition of Lighting Corporation of America (LCA), which he had headed.
"Scott Muse is a proven, disciplined manager," said Timothy H. Powers, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hubbell Incorporated, "who has delivered steadily increasing returns. Scott has 23 years of experience in the lighting and electrical product industries, and a record of accomplishment in virtually every functional area of management: sales, marketing, operations, and general management. His skills and those of the unit managers reporting to him will be the key contributors to Hubbell's plan for aggressive growth in lighting products, and represent a management team that is second-to-none in the industry."
Prior to joining Hubbell, Mr. Muse's association with Lighting Corporation of America began in 1993 when he was appointed President of Progress Lighting. He successfully restructured that operation and instituted a market driven strategy that strengthened sales, reduced operating costs, and forged innovative strategic alliances that expanded distribution channels and increased market penetration. Under his leadership, Progress Lighting moved to the forefront of the industry with substantial growth in sales, profits, and return on investment. His achievements led to successive promotions culminating with overall responsibility for all of LCA's operations.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Muse held management positions of increasing responsibilities with Hanson Industries, Thomas Industries, and American Electric. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration awarded in 1979 by Georgia Southern University, which in 1996, also honored him as the Business School's Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Muse will be based at the headquarters of Hubbell Lighting, Inc. in Spartanburg, SC, and will continue his active participation in industry associations including the National Association of Electrical Distributors, and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.
